Looking for the best way to organize under your kitchen sink? Here’s exactly how to finally clear the clutter and have a clean, functional and useable space!
Hi friends,
So, I finally did it! I finally tackled, decluttered and organized the space under our kitchen sink!
I’m so happy with the results, its so nice to finally have a functional space! I got rid of a lot of old, expired products and tidied everything up.
Honestly, I’m not sure why this took me so long to get around to because it was so dang easy. I only spent $40 on this which is pretty good in my book!
This post is all about the best way to organize under the kitchen sink!
How To Organize Under the Kitchen Sink
Alright, lets go over the steps you need to take when tackling this area!
1. Clear out the space!
First, take everything out from under the sink. Yes, everything. Organizing always goes much smoother and works out a lot better when you have a clean slate.
2. Go through your products
Next, go ahead and lay everything out. Toss out expired products, more than half empty bottles, trash and other things you haven’t touched in long you forgot they were there!
3. Minimize what you store under your sink
Go through everything that you store in this cabinet. What items are essential? What items could you find a better home for? Decluttering your space is huge so don’t skip this step. More on this in a moment.
4. Clean the cabinet
This space might not be too terribly dirty but give a good wipe down anyway.
5. Measure your space
Take a few quick measurements of your space. This will save your sanity when it comes to buying organizers. I’d get the depth, depth of space free from pipes, the total width, the width of each side between the cabinets center, the height to the lowest pipe, and the highest height.
6. Figure out how you want to organize each item
Do you want to keep your cleaning bottles in a bin? Maybe on a shelf? In a caddy? On a lazy suzan? Do you want to be able to clip up your gloves? What about cleaning clothes, will you want a rack for them? No stress, you’ll know how you want to organize everything by the end of this post!
7. Purchase your organizers
Head on over to Home Goods, Target or Walmart and pick up your items. Or if you’re like me, click add to cart on Amazon and avoid running around.
8. Put everything in its new home
Lastly, put it all together. This is the fun part, seeing everything come together! Don’t forget to grab a photo before you put everything all nice and neat in there. I live for before and after organization photos!
What To Store Under Kitchen Sink
We talked about minimizing the amount of things you store under your sink in the last section. Here are the items I keep under my sink and some of the items I moved when organizing my space.
1. Cleaners
A bit obvious, who doesn’t keep cleaning supplies under there? I have a good list of cleaning essentials but I only keep certain products under here to avoid clutter.
- All purpose cleaner
- Granite cleaner
- Bar Keepers Friend
- Window cleaner
- All purpose wipes
- Floor cleaner
- Stainless steel cleaner

2. Sponges
Is this considered cleaning supplies? Probably. I know you already do this but yes, store your sponges under the sink. Get yourself a hefty supply of magic erasers to keep down there too!
3. Trash/Grocery Bags
Is there even anywhere else to store trash bags?
4. Cleaning tools
You’ll want space for cleaning clothes, scrubbing brushes and gloves.
Things I DON’T keep under the kitchen sink
This is totally preference, but here are a couple things I no longer store under my sink.
1. Dish detergent
Nope, no dishwasher pods. I have two crazy boys in my house who honestly, with enough determination, can break into ANY child proofing system. With cleaners we always make sure to twist them to “off” before putting them away but we decided to just move the pods all together. They’re now stored above my kitchen sink lol
2. Paper towels
We had a leak one time and ruined a bunch of perfectly good paper towels. Those little shits are expensive too so yes, I was upset haha! No longer store my paper towels under there, they all go in our pantry.
3. Non-kitchen cleaning products
I used to keep a lot of random cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink. I would keep basically all of my cleaning supplies there. Bathroom foaming bubbles, dusting spray, etc. It created way too much clutter so now I keep it to only kitchen cleaning essentials.
Under Kitchen Sink Organization Before & After
This is as close to a “before” photo that I have. This was after purging a bunch of random things but before I actually organized.
After! So much better! I really wish I had proper “before” because it used to seriously stress me out. This just doesn’t do it justice but it’ll have to do!
Under the Kitchen Sink Organization Ideas & Tips
Cleaning supplies storage
OXO Good Grips Lazy Susan Turntable, 16-Inch
I used a lazy Susan or turntable to hold all of my cleaning products. I actually found the turntable on clearance at Target so I’m not sure if there’s a link but I found this one on Amazon that has great reviews, is large enough and is under $15!
So, I decided to go with a turntable and honestly, I’m so glad I did because I love it! It’s really easy to use and holds a lot! Being able to open the cabinet and use my toe to spin it to exactly what I need without pulling something out is lazy but so wonderful!
Organizer Storage Bin with Handles
Okay, I love my turntable but I will admit, its shape is a bit inconvenient. If you’re looking for something to help you keep everything as compact as possible and maximize space, consider a bin instead.
Grocery bag storage
simplehuman Wall Mount Grocery Bag Dispenser
Do you see that giant trash bag in the back of my cabinet? Yeah, thats what I was using to hold all of my grocery bags. It was huge, bulky, hard to access and annoying as hell. When I started to organize under my kitchen sink I was so excited about this holder! I love it!
Stackable drawers storage
Alright, these containers are pretty small but they work really well for what I needed! We use really thick microfiber cleaning clothes so I wasn’t sure they’d fit but they do! Under that I just keep some cleaning sponges, a toothbrush (for cleaning) and magic erasers. Remember, always measure to save yourself a headache!
Utilize the cabinet door to save space
Under Sink Cabinet Caddy Heavy Duty
Using the back of your cabinet door to save space is a great idea! This is a great spot to put your drain catchers, current/dirty cleaning sponge, scrubbing brush, etc.
There are a ton of over the door caddies similar to this but I’d personally go with something like this instead. Anything over the door will be visible when you close the door which isn’t too cute. It also might mess with some baby proofing systems.
Not gonna lie, I didn’t know Command made this! This is exactly what I need for drying our cleaning clothes in between uses so I just ordered it! The reviews are all pretty positive and truthfully, I fully trust Command products since I already use them everywhere.
Update: We’ve had this towel bar now for almost year and its still holding up great! Definitely recommend!
Okay, okay, last Command product! I like the idea of using spring clips on the back of your cabinet door too. The main use for this that comes to mind is for hanging cleaning gloves. Truthfully, I’m gross and I don’t use gloves for cleaning the kitchen (only really the toilet) so that’s why I don’t have this. But otherwise, if I was a normal human, this is how I would store my gloves.
Keep things safe from little ones
Eco-Baby Child Safety Magnetic Locks
If you have little ones and haven’t child proofed your kitchen yet, you need to! If you only do one thing to child proof your kitchen though, I’d make sure it’s this! Lock up this cabinet really good. Like I said, I don’t even keep dishwasher pods under here because I’m that careful about this cabinet. These magnet locks are great because they’re damage free, hidden and “un-lockable” for easy access when the kids aren’t around.

Label everything for the rest of the family
Being moms, of course we know where everything goes and belongs but the rest of the family seems to struggle with this. Label things out so they can hopefully stay organized even when you’re not around. I plan to use my Cricut to make some later but honestly the way I organized it I don’t really need to.
I went ahead and created a few labels that you’re free to go ahead and download and use! Please note that you’ll need this exact label paper to use this printable.
