It’s not even lunch yet and you can tell it’s going to be one those “those” days. You made a breakfast no-one touched, kids are fighting, baby is crying & the dishes are already piling up. We’ve all been there!
Mom-life can get the best of us some days. Sometimes you need a good old mom hack to save your sanity!
Here are 6 mom hacks you need to try next time you just need a break!
6 Genius Mom Hacks For A Break!
1. “Nap time”
So, If your kids are a little bit older and never stop fighting, this ones for you! Put all the kids into one room together and tell them they need to take a nap.
Now, we don’t really give a shit if they actually take a nap or not.. we just want them out of the way and not to bother us. They think they’re supposed to be “napping” so they won’t come to you to tattle. They’ll work their problems out on their own together and they’ll do it quietly because they’re trying to be sneaky.
We know they aren’t sleeping, but they don’t. Use it to your advantage!
2. The Vacuum
Toddler life is like… next level. These tiny humans follow you absolutely everywhere! They constantly want to be held but also don’t want to be touched at the same time. Sometimes, even like a 5 minute solo potty break is enough to get you through the rest of the day.
This hack is stupid simple. Hand your toddler.. a vacuum. Thats it. Yup, give them a vacuum with a detachable hose or a hand held vacuum and let them go to town. Throw some tissue squares on the floor if you think it’ll spark more interest.
If you’re anything like me, your floor probably has enough shit on it that needs to be vacuumed anyway making this a two-in-one hack! Clean floor, entertained toddler & you can pee in peace.
3. Road Trip – Mom Hack
Honestly, I probably use this mom hack for a break the most. Like a couples times a week. No shame. I have 3 kids, a baby, a 2 year old and a 5 year old. Grab those kids, doesn’t matter if they’re wearing pajamas, just round them up. Grab a few snacks & iPads, put them in your purse and strap those kids in their car seats.
Drive around for a bit, if you’re lucky and have car babies like me, they’ll soon fall asleep. If they don’t, hand them the iPads. Once everyone is asleep or entertained, turn on your favorite podcast or music, grab a coffee and some lunch and just enjoy the quiet. I bring snacks in case someone wakes up at the drive through and headphones for the iPads because for some reason kids love to put them at full volume.
For some reason, knowing the kids are quiet and most importantly CONTAINED (not just quite but making a million messes some where else) is what allows me to truly relax and enjoy myself.
4. Pre-Planned Activities
You read that title and are like what the hell, Angie?! Thats not a hack! Planning activities takes research, time and are often messy! Doesn’t sound like a break to me. Before you click away and give me attitude, wait a second!
This sounds like a such a sales pitch but honestly, I just love this printable subscription that much! I’m talking about Magic Playbook. I have an entire post all about them, how I use their activities with my kids and just more general info about what Magic Playbook is. Trust me, they’ve been a total life saver!! Takes the thinking, researching, planning, etc. out of it and just makes it easy.
These days I plan out activities from Magic Playbook about a week in advance and just have them on hand for whenever. We don’t do an activity everyday of the week so it seems like a “treat” of sorts when I need a break and decided to pull out an activity. They have a bunch of different activities like games, sensory bins and play doh activities that can easily be done on their own.. without me.. with me away.. far away. By far away I mean, really close but hiding.

5. Grocery Shop – Mom Hack
This hack is pure genius! You’re really about the click away right now, huh? This lady is seriously going to suggest grocery shopping as a “mom hack for a break”? If this was real life, I’m sure some mom would have punched me by now haha! Listennnnn!
Okay, here’s the plan. You can use this mom hack for a break, Every. Single. Week. And no one will ever know. How will they know. (cue me watching too many tiktoks). Tonight, go to your local grocery stores website and order all your groceries. Tomorrow, say you need to grocery shopping and don’t want to take the kids so that it’s faster. Leave the house and go do whatever you want for that hour and a half. Get some fries that you don’t want have to share. Blast your favorite music from the 2000’s that would normally embarrass your kids, scroll on your phone, get a pedicure.. whatever!
Swing by the grocery store to pick up your groceries on the way back and walk in like a damn badass mom who just slayed grocery shopping. Hide your new pedicure and throw away any evidence in the car. Any wrappers, receipts, take out bags, all gotta go so that you can keep your best kept secret all to yourself.
6. Be Dad
If all else fails, try to find some way to be dad. Shit always seems easier for them.
If you figure out the secret to being dad for a day – let me know! I’m still working on it, personally.
