Hi friends,
I hope the month of December is treating you well! It’s definitely a busy time for everyone especially if you have kids but with all hustle and bustle of the season I hope you’re still remembering to take time to unwind.
Difficult, I know.
I’ve been shopping like crazy.. I actually just finished today as I’m writing this. I made a post about what I got my kiddos of varying ages, you can check it out here if you need some inspo!
Shopping, decorating and running around like crazy aside, this year I’ve made it a point to really get into reading with the kids. Christmas books are so magical & extra special it’s easy to create an entire night out of cuddling up and reading.
We’ve taken time to choose at least one night each week where we get hot chocolate, pop some popcorn, grab a cozy blanket and sit by the tree to read a few Christmas books before bed. They absolutely love it and I’m definitely making it a new Christmas tradition to add to the list! You can check out our other Christmas traditions here!
There are SO many great, beautiful Christmas books and I feel like each year we grow our collection even more! I even still have a few Christmas books from my childhood! My daughter loves reading the ones she knows I got when I was her age!
I thought today I’d sit down and share our entire Christmas book collection with you incase you’re looking to grow your bookshelf! I have 3 kids.. currently 5 years old, almost 2 years old and a 4 month old so we have a wide variety of books. I’ll share my entire list and then break down which ones I’d suggest for what age!
Ps. Special shout out to my mom who bought us these beautiful shelves? Are they shelves? I’m not sure, but we used them as book shelves! They are perfect and go wonderfully in our boys room!
- Disney Christmas Storybook Collection – this has been my daughter’s favorite Christmas book this year hands down! It has a ton of stories from her favorite Disney characters like Ariel, Bell & more! The stories are a decent length, some a little too long to hold my two year olds attention but short enough to definitely hold my 5 year olds attention.
- ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas– a classic of course, this is a must have for literally any age!
- The Polar Express – This beautiful book is always a good read, we read it the night before we watched the movie and I think it made the movie even that much more exciting for the kids
- Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree – this is a book my mom got me at around 6 years old and I’ve always loved it! It’s about a rich man who receives a giant tree but it’s too tall so he chops the top off and it becomes the perfect sized tree for someone else.. the story continues with each character passing on a piece of the tree.
- Santa’s Sleigh is on its way to Kentucky – This books comes for every state but we live in Kentucky so of course we got this version. It’s an adorable story of Santa’s journey to your house that mentions a bunch of cities in your state. It’s a fun book for sure!
- Llama llama Jingle Bells – this story is perfect for my 2 year old, it’s short, simple and has fun illustrations! Everyone loves Llama Llama books! This one is shorter than Llama Llama Holiday Drama.
- Sneezy the snowman – This is super funny book about a snowman who is cold and looking for ways to warm up which of course keep melting him.
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas – another classic everyone needs!
- The Itsy Bitsy Snowman – A fun short story of a snowman to the rhyme of the isty bitsy spider!
- Little Blue Truck’s Christmas (not pictured) – My son absolutely LOVES this book, he was probably looking at it and that’s why I missed it in the photo but it’s probably his favorite this year. We love counting down the trees and he absolutely adores the light up Christmas tree at the end of the story.
- The Steadfast Tin Soldier – An absolutely beautiful book with gorgeous illustrations! It’s pretty long and doesn’t hold my 2 year old sons interest but my daughter loves it. This is another one from my childhood & I still remember my mom reading it to me!
- The Best Christmas Hunt Ever – An “I Spy” type of book!
- Baby Touch and Feel Christmas – This book doesn’t have a story line at all, it’s all Christmas items with fun textures. Even at almost 2 years old my son still enjoys this book, my youngest as well!
- You Are My Merry – A rhyming book with fun photos. It’s a sweet and simple book! It’s padded which is great for littles!
- The Christmas Miracle of Johnathan Toomey – This is an absolutely beautifully illustrated book with a heartfelt story. It’s long and definitely for older kids or even just adults. I personally love this gorgeous book.
- The 12 days of Christmas– a sturdy book with tabs for each twelve days! We love counting the photos and counting down each tab
- I am Max (not pictured) – Based off the book How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This book is about the Grinches dog, Max! They also have I am Cindy Lou but we haven’t bought that one yet, maybe next year!
The rest of the books pictured are so old they aren’t even for sale anymore.. sorry about that! It just makes them that much more special to me since they are now books that very few people still have!
So this is our collection so far this year, we’ve had more in the past but have donated them thinking our daughter had outgrown them before we went on to have two more children. I think from now on I’m keeping all Christmas books even once they outgrow them. It will be so special to pass them down to our kids for our grandchildren one day.
Share your favorite Christmas books with me below! Every year I’m looking for new books and would absolutely love to hear your recommendations!
