A genius mom hack for your car is creating a baby car kit that will save you in any situation! This kit will have you prepared for any emergency.
Hi friends,
This week I wanted to share with you the newest addition to our car that has already saved me a couple times since putting it together.. my baby car kit!
Honestly, I don’t know why I haven’t done this a lot sooner! I have 3 kids and am constantly forgetting something. It’s embarrassing how many times I’ve been caught without a diaper in an emergency blow out situation.
Being prepared is something that is an absolute must for me at this point. Like I said, I have 3 kids now so at least one of us has to have our shit together – probably should be me!
Here is exactly how I set up my ultimate baby car kit essentials!
Baby Car Kit Essentials
1. Start with a diaper caddy

Having everything neat and organized is the goal here. So, naturally you’ll need something to hold all of your car essentials. This is the exact diaper caddy I have for my car.
2. Load up diapers and wipes
The first and probably most obvious thing you’ll need are diapers and wipes. Of course, this is a given. I currently have two in diapers so although this is mainly for the baby, its very useful for my toddler as well.
How many diapers do you keep in the car?
I keep about 5 for each kid. I also keep a full pack of wipes. Not a travel size pack, a full on sized package of wipes! Wipes come in handy for many things so don’t be shy with how many you keep on hand! I love the ones from Sams Club!
3. Always have wet bags!

Next, wet bags are such a life saver! Ever have a blowout and scramble to find a grocery bag or something to wrap up those gross clothes in? So gross, never again. These also have come in handy a lot since its getting warmer and we’ve found ourselves at random splash parks and in need of something to hold wet clothes/swimsuits.
4. Hand sanitizer
Additionally, keep some type of hand sanitizer in the diaper caddy too! I do a lot of diaper changes right there in the back of the car so of course there isn’t a sink. Instead, I opt for hand sanitizer as a way to “wash” my hands in a pinch.
5. Doggy bags for stinky, dirty diapers

Like I said, I do a lot of diaper changes in the back of car. I actually prefer it over bringing in an entire diaper bag. Normally, I do a change before we head into a store so I’ll simply throw the diaper away on the way in. But, there are times when I’m doing an emergency diaper change back and there with no trash can insight.. Thats when these bad boys come in handy!
6. Change of clothes a size up
I think just about every mom in the history of ever has been in this situation at least once. A blowout happens and you dig through the bottom of your diaper bag to find a onesie 3 months too small.
Instead of keeping baby’s current size, you’ll want to put a onesie thats a size up back there. Having a baby in an oversized onesie for a little bit is a better than having a naked baby because you can’t squeeze that old onesie onto them.
7. Stain Remover
Emergency Stain Rescue Stain Remover
This is a mustttttt! It’s not pictured in the photos because I had just ordered more but trust me, you need this in your diaper caddy car kit. Treat any and all stains before putting them into your wet bag! If you just let your babys dirty clothes sit there in a wet bag for a few hours til you get home, you kinda might as well just throw them away instead because chances are that stain is not coming out. Pre-treat stains right away, buy this!
7. Changing pad
Truthfully, I don’t use a changing pad. I just don’t, especially because I rarely use nasty public bathrooms. Still, even if the back of your car is clean, keeping a changing pad is smart for when you have a blowout and that shits everywhere.. literally. It’ll save your car from poop smears 🙂
8. Snacks, always have snacks!
If your little one is older than 6 months, you’ll definitely want to keep snacks in the car! Snacks are always the answer.. snacks are live savers! You’ll want to keep nonperishable snacks in here for that emergency hangery baby situation.
Here are a few snacks ideas to keep in the car for baby:
- Snapeas
- Puffcorn
- Fruit leather
- Peanut butter crackers
- Nutrigrain bar
- Gerber puffs
- Teethers
- Animal crackers
- Veggie straws
- Freeze dried fruit
- Dry cereal
Basically anything that won’t rot, melt, or freeze!
9. A few toys, of course!
Lastly, but arguably most importantly, toys! I’ve switched the toys out a couple times already just so he doesn’t get bored but I try to keep 3 or 4 small toys in there. Right now we have a baby touch and feel book, a rainbow teething ring, a crinkle paper lovey & a teething tube! I will say the teething tube stays in there all the time because its his favorite!
10. Other baby care items you may want in your baby car kit
So, I personally keep things pretty simple. I try not to overpack just because things quickly become unorganized for me when I do.
But, if you truly want to be prepared for anything here a few other things I’d consider adding to your baby car kit:
- Sunscreen
- Diaper rash cream
- Pacifiers
- Bibs
- Burp cloths
- Tissues
- All purpose cleaning wipes
- A small blanket
- Nursing cover
- Baby safe bug spray
