150+ Insanely Good Non-Toy Gift Ideas To Limit Clutter!

November 18, 2020

Hi friends,

Are you drowning in toys? Worried about Christmas coming and drowning even more? Same. One of our yearly family Christmas traditions is to declutter and donate toys to make room for the new gifts but with 3 kids this year it seems like no matter how much I donate or throw away there’s still more. It never ends.

I’m committed this year to mainly purchase non toy gifts.. Does this mean they won’t get any toys? No.. I still plan on purchasing 1 or 2 toy items for each kid and we also have family members on each side that love to spoil these kids.

I sat down and gathered my favorite ideas for non-toy gifts that I’m sure will still excite the kiddos but not add to the overcrowding hoard of toys.

1. Room decor

Making a kids room truly theirs and an extension of themselves is always exciting for them. Bedrooms are place to retreat to to hang out, relax & play. Room decor is a fun way to help your child express themselves and allow them to develop a sense of individuality.

  • Room Lighting
    • Rainbow Light Curtain
    • Unicorn Light Curtain
    • Sky Lite Projector
    • LED light Strips (work with Alexa & sync up with music)
    • Neon night light (rainbow, dinosaur and dolphin)
  • Paint their room any color of their choice
  • New bedding
    • Paw Patrol bedding
    • Mickey Mouse bedding
    • Trucks/Cars Bedding
    • Dinosaur bedding
    • JoJo Siwa bedding
    • Rainbow print bedding
  • Pillows
    • Fire truck pillow
    • Sprinkle donut pillow
    • Sequin pillow
  • Echo Dot Kids Edition

2. Art supplies

Another form of self expression is through art.. If your kid is anything like mine they’re always looking for new ways to create art and make crafts. Art helps with sensory and motor skills and we can never have enough in my opinion!

  • Sticker Books – Ridiculously Cute Stickers
  • Paint – Do-A-Dot Art Paint
  • Pens – Glitter Paint Pens
  • Easel – Standing Art Easel
  • Clay – Molding Clay Kit
  • Coloring – Fuzzy Coloring Posters
  • Art Kit – Crayola Masterworks Art Case
  • Paper – Magic Rainbow Scratch Paper
  • Drawing – Light Up Tracing Pad

3. Subscription boxes

The gift that keeps giving all throughout the year! So many options for nearly every interest a kid may have! Make sure to order the first one early so it’s there to unwrap on Christmas morning!

  1. Stage-baed play essentials for up to 3 years old – Lovevery.com
  2. A variety of hands-on activities for all ages – Kiwico.com
  3. Amazon book box subscription (baby – 12 years old)
  4. Cooking – Kidstir Subscription
  5. STEM discovery box
  6. Green Kid Crafts box
  7. Baking – Foodstirs subscription
  8. Clothing – Stitchfix Kids

4. Outdoor toys/activities

For the love of sweet baby Jesus, please go outside and stop destroying the house! Outdoor toys are another item I don’t think we can ever have too many of! Get all that energy out.. please.

  • LED light up swing! (This one is so cool!)
  • Strider Balance Bike
  • Outdoor trampoline
  • Little Tikes slide
  • Kids hammock
  • Kids water table
  • Razor scooter
  • Little Tikes Cozy Coupe (they make truck, racing, fairy, etc versions now too!)
  • Bubble machine
  • Mini cruiser skateboard

5. Clothing

Clothing isn’t always the most exciting thing to get on Christmas morning for all kids but if you find the right items you might be surprised! My daughter loves skirts, the brighter and fluffier the better!

6. Bath toys/items

I feel like bath toys get neglected.. We don’t really think too much about them till we see one of those Facebook posts of a mom cutting open a squirt toy to find a bunch of mold and we immediately run and throw them all away lol! Other fun bathroom items might include new hooded towels, bath bombs, robes/slippers, etc

  1. Yookidoo Elephant interchangeable funnel
  2. Rainbow bath bomb set
  3. Adorable bear hooded towel
  4. Unicorn slippers
  5. Plush dinosaur robe
  6. Octodrum musical bath toy
  7. Spin N Sort spout bath toy
  8. Munchkin Color Buddies Tablets

7. Accessories

Kids love fun accessories that make them feel grown up! Things they’ll actually use like a new wallet, kids purse, hair items, sun glasses, etc.

  1. Kids sunglasses (color options)
  2. Little girls purse (wallet, keys, phone, credit card)
  3. Press-on nails set
  4. Ergobaby baby doll carrier
  5. Unicorn music jewelry box
  6. Piggy bank
  7. Winter beanie hat
  8. Herschel Wallet
  9. VTech Smartwatch

8. Furniture

This one is kind of a big one but it doesn’t have to super expensive like a new bed.. A few years back we bought an indoor tent and its definitely a favorite around here.. it was only about $25!

  1. Bean bag chair (with stuffed animal storage)
  2. Kids table and chair set
  3. Princess tent
  4. Children’s fox plush chair
  5. Dinosaur glow in the dark sleeping bag

9. School items

I can’t be the only one who loved going back to school shopping as a kid! Anything that they really wanted but didn’t get during BTS shopping? Some of the cute supplies already gone missing or broke? Perfect gift!

  1. Backpack pins (dinosaur)
  2. Backpack pins (unicorn, rainbow, etc)
  3. Bentgo Kids bento lunch box (different prints)
  4. Fuzzy pom pom pens
  5. Smelly pencils
  6. ZIPIT mermaid pencil case (various options available)
  7. Hamburger notepad

10. Creativity supplies

Crafts like typical art supplies aren’t the only the ways to let kids get creative! Encourage them to pick up a new skill like photography, an instrument, sewing, tumbling, molding, etc.

  1. Starter sewing machine
  2. Instax Mini camera bundle
  3. Tumbling mat
  4. Kids guitar set (strap and accessories)
  5. Friendship bracelet maker

  4. Wooden blocks jigsaw puzzle
  5. Wooden animal puzzles for toddlers
  6. USA floor puzzle

  8. Rubberband geoboard puzzle (I spent hours doing these as a kid myself!)
  9. Personalized name puzzle

13. Experiences

This can include a membership to local zoo, art museum, water park.. Tickets to a show, a movie or concert! I would maybe do a “clue box” as a gift to physically open for these. For example.. mini zoo animal figures, a zoo animals book, a water bottle and hat to wear to the zoo or a box with swimsuit, goggles & sunscreen for waterpark passes. That way at least they have something to actually unwrap on Christmas morning!

14. Classes

Sign your little one up for a class you think might interest them or they’ve expressed they want do. Mommy & me cooking classes, swim classes, guitar lesson classes, etc.

  7. Bean bag toss

15. Gift cards

My daughter loves being the one to pay for things, it makes her feel grown up! Good gift card ideas include fast food, ice cream, Target/Walmart, Barnes and Noble and Apple App store! For older kids maybe even just a simple Visa gift card!

16. Books/Audiobooks

Books are of course always a great option for any age! My daughter loves Audible Audiobooks too, she’ll listen to them as she’s falling asleep instead of music sometimes or in the car when she doesn’t want to hear her brothers screaming lol
