In this post, I’m going to share with you my experience using The Magic Playbook, how I use it for my kids, tips and tricks & recommendations.
This post is all about the printable subscription Magic Playbook!
First, let’s cover the basics first.. Here are a few questions you may have if this is your first time hearing about this subscription.
What is Magic Playbook?
Magic Playbook is a monthly printable subscription that is designed to help you easily put together activities for your kids. They provide a range of ideas that include sensory activities, crafts, games & fun recipes.
These activities are absolutely adorable & include a supplies list, library list and screen time ideas that all compliment the theme for the month.
How much does Magic Playbook cost?
It only costs $11 a month if you purchase their monthly plan. It’s only $9 a month if you purchase their annual plan by paying $99 up front. You can sign up here!
What ages are The Magic Playbook best for?
On their website they say it’s created to be aimed towards children that are between 2 and 6 years old. Luckily for me, I have a 2 year old and 5 year old so I’ve seen how it works on both ends of the recommended ages.
Now, I can confidently say that their activities are easily adaptable to a wide range! They make this super easy by giving you suggestions in the monthly playbook of how different activities can be tweaked for different age groups.
Is The Magic Playbook a physical product?
No.. but also yes. Signing up as a member means each month they will send you an email to let you know the newest playbook is available through their members portal. It’s a PDF file that you can print the pages from right from your own home.
They now have an option to have the printable portions of the playbook physically mailed to you on high quality paper for an additional $15.
Additionally, Magic Playbook now has an entire Magic Play Shop that includes inspired play kits and “inspired play posters” available to purchase separately. “Inspired play posters” are posters that are related to that months theme that children can color on, stick to the wall and engage in endless imaginary play!
What comes in a Magic Playbook subscription?
Magic Playbook is jam-packed with sensory and activity ideas, games, recipes and crafts. Additionally, they provide you with an entire supplies/grocery list for any and all of the months activities. They also include a library book & screen time list with books and video links that are related towards to that months theme.
All of this makes it super easy to create an entire experience and provides many great learning opportunities!
Why I Personally Love Magic Playbook:
So, I stumbled across The Magic Playbook back in November on Instagram. Someone I follow had posted a story of a cute activity they were doing with their toddler and tagged @themagicplaybook as credit for the printables they were using. Naturally, I clicked on the tag and was led to a beautiful Instagram page filled with adorable ideas that activities I instantly knew my kids would enjoy too! I signed up that very same day to access all of their fun Christmas activities.
Caitlin and Mandy (the creators) send out the playbook on the 15th of each month. They are always in advance for the following month. For example, their December playbook had less Christmas activities and more New years ideas since it would carry you over through the first half of January.. Their January playbook (dropped January 15th) had many Valentine’s Day related projects, etc.
This is super helpful and works out perfectly especially since they allow you to view two playbooks (current & previous month) at a time through their members portal.
Magic Playbook for Different Ages
Earlier, I mentioned that I have two children who use the Magic Playbook so I feel like I have a good idea of how well it works for different ages. At the time of writing this, I have a recently turned 2 year old boy, 5 year old girl and 7 month old baby boy. My 2 and 5 year old absolutely love the activities from the Magic Playbook. My 7 month old has even joins in on some of the sensory type ideas.
In each Playbook they provide you with different ways to use and adapt the activities. Some of the activities are a little too much for my 2 year old and some are little too simple for my 5 year old but they are both still enjoy them in different ways. I love using their provided ideas but it’s also super easy to create your own ideas with them, too.
I definitely recommend following them on Instagram. They’re always sharing photos from other people using the printables in their own ways too. It always sparks such great ideas for me!
The One Negative About Magic Playbook
Honestly, If I had to think of one negative aspect of The Magic Playbook it would probably be the amount of time it takes to cut all of the activities. Thankfully, they recently informed us that they will be providing SVG’s now for those of us with cutting machines like a Cricut! This will save so much time.. This is so exciting! If you don’t have a Cricut though, yes. The cutting can be a little time consuming especially if you want clean cut images. (I give up on this sometimes – as seen below lol)
I think Caitlin and Mandy have done an amazing job at listening to their customers! They really explore every way possible to make this as easy as possible for busy parents!
A couple tips and tricks for using The Magic Playbook:
- I plan which activities I want to do for the week before I go grocery shopping. If I need a certain ingredient for a recipe, a household item, or even any basic craft supplies that I don’t normally keep on hand, I can usually find them at my grocery store. I like to do this to avoid making multiple trips.
- Print and cut everything at the same time.
- Laminate things that you’ll want to write on or reuse for multiple activities. This will help them from getting crumbled and gross.
- Create an art & crafts cart!! This was a total game changer for me! They use many of the same supplies monthly like pipe cleaners, wooden dowels, glue, etc. so I always keep those on hand. I love being able to bring out the cart for my 5 year old and let do her thing knowing she probably will have everything she needs right there.
- Download the PDF to your Books app. The entire book isn’t meant to be printed out and it’s honestly a waste of paper to do so but I was getting tired of having to log into the members portal every time. Now, I keep it easily accessible right on my phone and it’s so convenient.
- Click “lost your password?” the first time you log in to change your password. They give you an auto generated on when you first join and this is the only way to change it.
